• HOW TO DRILL PROFESSIONALS

  1. drill selection: For metals: Use metal drills made of high performance high-speed steel (HSS). Tungsten carbide or stainless steel: metal drills with titanium coating or made of a cobalt alloy.
  
  2. center-punching: Mark the drilling location by scribing with a scribing needle. Apply a hardened centre punch pin and mark the drilling point with a short hammer blow - this prevents the drill from slipping. For HSS drills with cross-ground surface, the center-punching can be omitted. For large drill diameters, pre-drill with a smaller drill bit.
  
  3rd speed: To protect the drill bit, drill hard metal at low speed and with low pressure. For softer metals use higher speed. Reduce pressure before breakthrough.
  
  4. cooling: Cool the drill bit. For long drillings, lift the drill several times and supply coolant, if necessary, take breaks in drilling.
