Frequently asked questions about the metal circular saw:

What is a metal circular saw used for?

The main application of metal circular saws is cutting metal profiles and pipes to length. These machines can be used to saw different profiles, solid material, round, rectangular and square tubes to the desired size. Depending on the saw blade, a metal circular saw can be used to process workpieces made of steel, stainless steel, iron, aluminium and non-ferrous metal.

What types of metal circular saws are there?

You will find two different types of metal circular saws in the BHM Maschinen range. We have circular metal saws that are equipped with a carbide saw blade similar to a circular saw for wood. These machines work with very low numbers of revolutions. They are used, for example, to cut solid material made of steel, stainless steel, aluminium or another metal to length.

The second type of metal circular saws in our range are machines that work at high speeds with a cutting disc. They work in a similar way to an angle grinder or cut-off wheel. These circular saws are used to cut metal profiles or pipes with different geometries. With these materials, the teeth of a circular saw blade would most likely catch. Therefore, cut-off saws are better suited for this work. Depending on the requirements and needs, we supply metal circular saws for manual, semi-automatic or fully automatic sawing.

Can a metal circular saw be repaired?

Yes, every metal circular saw from the BHM Maschinen range can be repaired if necessary. The machines of our manufacturers are basically very robustly constructed and designed for hard everyday work. Nevertheless, it can happen that a defect occurs. In this case, spare parts are usually available quickly, so that the machine is ready for use again without a long downtime.

What should be taken into account when working with a metal circular saw?

There are two dangers when working with a metal circular saw. Firstly, the teeth of the saw blade are very sharp and the saw blade is driven by a powerful electric motor. If a finger is stuck between the workpiece and the saw tooth, the saw tooth will be the winner. Therefore, before starting work with a metal circular saw, the protective cover of the saw blade should be checked to make sure it is in good working order.

The second danger is hot chips. A lot of heat is generated due to the high friction between the saw blade and the workpiece. Care should be taken to ensure that the saw blade and workpiece are sufficiently cooled and lubricated. Sometimes the chips fly very far away from the machine. Therefore, safety goggles should always be worn when working with a metal circular saw. Clothing should also be closed as much as possible so that no chips can get between clothing and skin, for example on the shirt collar.

Can you also saw wood with a metal circular saw?

Theoretically, yes. However, because of the very low speed of the saw blades, the cutting speed of a metal circular saw is too low to be able to saw wood cleanly. The saw blades specially designed for sawing metal will not be damaged, but the cutting result will not be clean. If necessary, it would be possible to saw wood with a metal hand-held circular saw from Bernardo, for example, because of the higher speed. At the very least, however, the metal circular saw blade should be replaced with a saw blade for wood. However, sawing wood with a metal circular saw, regardless of the design, is not recommended in any case.
